About Kotitila
Welcome to Kotitila – online shop and store!

Welcome to the Kotitila online shop and shop!
Suomen Kotitila Oy is a family-owned company. It was founded in 2012, which makes it Finland's oldest local food online shop still in operation. The shop at the Helsinki Wholesale Market opened in June 2020. In June 2026 we moved to new premises in Merihaka, Helsinki.
The Kotitila.fi online shop is for you if you care about what you eat. Here you will find high-quality Finnish meats and grain-free, low-carb bakes and ready meals. Our whole approach is based on looking after a sustainable and transparent food chain, and on keeping and developing our level of self-sufficiency. For us, Finnish origin and quality are not just promises. They are the core of what we do.
The raw ingredient itself matters a great deal to us. We avoid industrial additives and preservatives in our products.
We want to support small and local producers, and through our work we want to give value to pure and nourishing food. In this way we want to support the best food production in the world, producers who invest in animal welfare, and a production method that allows natural behaviour.
The Finnish meat we sell comes to us from five different small abattoirs: Liha Lehtinen (Inkoo), Vainion teurastamo (Orimattila), Liha-Hietanen (Sastamala), Liha REM (Kausala) and Tajma (Munsala). These abattoirs focus on serving Finnish small producers. The beef we sell is grass-fed and Finnish. In the shop we show the origin, breed and region of each carcass on sale that week, so you know what you are eating. Every Thursday a load of eggs comes to our shop straight from the farm. On Thursdays, organic dairy products from Laitila and Saloniemen juustola are fresh in the fridge. The Kotitila shop also serves as a pickup point in Helsinki for the Saloniemen juustola online shop.
"Zero waste" is an important way of working for us. Each week, a Finnish grass-fed beef carcass comes to our shop. We cut it up and process the parts for sale as food for people and animals, including the organs. We render the fat, jar it for sale, and also use it in our own natural cosmetics. We only throw away the bones after we have boiled them into nourishing bone broth. Everything from the carcass is used or processed into food, so no waste is produced.
Kotitila has taken part in, among other things, an idea workshop set up in spring 2025 by Laurea ammattikoulu (Laurea vocational school), which promotes the systematic reuse of food side streams. It is part of the Food waste ecosystem project, reducing food waste and making use of surplus food (2023–2026). More information about the project: https://urn.fi/URN:ISBN:978-951-799-738-6
Suomen Kotitila Oy has made it onto the Kauppalehti Menestyjät and Kestomenestyjät lists.
The Kotitila shop and online shop, and the cosmetics range made from Kotitila's beef tallow, have been awarded the Avainlippu (Key Flag) mark for Finnish work.
